Professor, Department of Medicine
Alicia Fernández, MD is a Professor of Medicine at UCSF in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. Dr. Fernández has expertise in health and health care disparities, with a strong focus on diabetes, Latinx health, immigrant health, and language barriers. In addition to being the Director of the LCOE, she is also the co-director of two LCOE programs: FUEGO and PROF-PATH. She also serves as a faculty mentor for the UCSF ALAS program.
Sarah Alba-Nguyen, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, where she also serves as Associate Residency Program Director and departmental Director for GME Diversity. She is a member of the LCOE Administrative Core Faculty and is the co-director of two LCOE programs, the Academic and Leadership Academy (ALAS) and the Resident Mentoring Program (SALUD). Dr. Alba-Nguyen is a clinical faculty member in the UCSF Division of Hospital Medicine, where she attends on the direct patient care, teaching, and consulting medicine services.
Lupita Ambriz graduated with a Master of Public Health from UC Berkeley, where her focus was Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health. She earned her BS in Nutrition Science from UC Davis, and she has combined her education background to expand her research interests. She previously worked with the UCSF’s CA Preterm Birth Initiative (PTBi) to assist with a landscape analysis to identify the barriers affecting human milk feeding practices in SF County. While at PTBi, she conducted many stakeholder interviews to help guide and establish a lactation feeding coalition in SF.
Amy Beck MD MPH is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. She practices general pediatrics and is the Co-Director of the pediatric obesity clinic at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Her research focuses on obesity prevention in Latinx infants and toddlers and innovative approaches to treat obesity in Latinx children.
Emerita Director, Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies
Claire D. Brindis, Dr. PH, Distinguished Professor and Co-Director of the Adolescent and Young Adult Health Center. As a Latina researcher, she has led evaluations in diverse healthcare and public health content areas, including maternal, child, and adolescent health. She strives to incorporate the lens of lived experience among racially and ethnically diverse populations, particularly among Latinx populations. She is also committed to the translation of research for stakeholders—from community members to policy makers.
Yoselin Gonzalez Castillo is a Research Analyst for the UCSF Latinx Center of Excellence (LCOE) in the Division of Internal Medicine. As a Research Analyst, she provides programmatic support to the following LCOE programs: PROF-PATH, SALUD, Clínica Martín-Baró (CMB), and the Aspiring Physicians Program (APP) at Fresno State. Yoselin is also a Program Coordinator for the COVID-19 Vaccine Speakers Group and the Community Vaccine Ambassador Program, which are organized and led by the LCOE in partnership with the SF Dept. of Public Health and The Unity Council.
Peter Chin-Hong is Associate Dean for Regional Campuses. He is a medical educator who specializes in treating infectious diseases, particularly infections that develop in patients who have suppressed immune systems, such as solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients. He directs the immunocompromised host infectious diseases program at UCSF.
Executive Director, UCSF Internal Communications and Co-Chair of the UCSF Chicanx/Latinx Campus Association
Lisa Cisneros, executive director of Internal Communications in the Office of Communications, leads a network of communicators across UCSF, provides communications counsel to senior leadership, develops and implements communications plans for major projects and initiatives, and directs emergency communications at UC San Francisco. She leads internally focused communications, writes and edits web stories and e-newsletters, collaterals and speeches for UCSF leadership, and produces special reports, such as UCSF's Economic Impact Report.
Janet Coffman is a Professor of Health Policy at Healthforce Center and the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at UCSF. Over the past 25 years, she has authored numerous publications on the health care workforce in California and the United States, including reviews of literature on strategies for increasing racial/ethnic diversity in the health professions and analyses of data on the impact of Proposition 209 on the racial/ethnic diversity of California’s medical students. She has also conducted evaluations of multiple health workforce initiatives in California.
Associate Clinical Professor, Department of Medicine
Denise M. Connor, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine and the Gold-Headed Cane Endowed Teaching Chair in Internal Medicine at UCSF with her clinical home in the Hospital Medicine Division at the SFVA. She directs the School of Medicine’s Diagnostic Reasoning course, emphasizing the roles of patients and colleagues in the reasoning process. Dr. Connor is devoted to promoting equity and inclusion in medical education and is the Director of UCSF’s Anti-Oppression/Social Justice curriculum.
Triveni DeFries, MD MPH, is a general internist and addiction medicine specialist. She is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital, and is and Associate Medical Director of its primary care clinic. She brings experience in asylum medicine and immigrant rights, specifically training on performing forensic evaluations for people seeking asylum in the U.S., and is the co Medical Director of the UCSF Human Rights Clinic.
Maggie Del Cid (she/her/hers) is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UCSF. Since 2020, she has provided clinical supervision to interns of the MCTP program. She is the Director of the Family Mental Health Navigator Program and a bilingual (Spanish), bicultural licensed psychologist. Dr. Del Cid received her doctorate in clinical psychology at Palo Alto University with an emphasis in Diversity and Community Mental Health.
