Key Initiatives

In addition to the LCOE program offerings, the following key initiatives will be an ongoing priority of the center:

Children & Family Initiatives

The Children & Family Initiatives seek to improve the health and well-being of children and families through community partnerships, research, and education. Led by Dr. Raul Gutierrez, these efforts focus on school-based health programs, immigrant family support, and collaborative projects with organizations serving marginalized communities in San Francisco.

Community Addiction initiatives

The Community Addiction Initiatives aim to address substance use and addiction in Latinx communities through education, research, and advocacy. The program focuses on improving care for individuals with substance use disorders by supporting community-based approaches and training future healthcare professionals to provide culturally responsive care. These efforts are rooted in collaboration with local partners to promote wellness and reduce health disparities.

Workforce initiatives

The Workforce Initiatives is designed to strengthen and diversify the healthcare workforce by supporting undergraduate pre-health students from backgrounds underrepresented in healthcare. Through mentorship, academic support, research opportunities, and leadership development, these programs help expand access to health careers for dedicated young individuals committed to advancing health equity and serving their communities.

State-level Workforce Development

Building off the recent California Future Health Workforce Commission Recommendations released in February 2019, the LCOE is looking at ways in which it can use its work and collective knowledge and expertise to inform policies and initiatives related to workforce development at the state level.
