SF BUILD is an existing collaboration between San Francisco State University (SFSU) and UCSF that aims to enhance the diversity of the biomedical research workforce. The SFBUILD APP program is a premedical wrap-around program for Latinx students that leverages the existing collaborations and infrastructure from SF BUILD to support the entry of SFSU Latinx undergraduate students into medical school. The program is comprised of both an academic year and summer program. During the academic year, students will participate in mentorship, professional development and clinical volunteer opportunities. During the summer program, students will engage in intensive workshops and MCAT prep to help build their exposure, access and confidence in attaining a career in medicine. A total of 8 premedical Latinx students from SFSU will be selected and provided with summer stipends.
The SF BUILDAPP program is led by UCSF LCOE faulty Dr. Tomás Magaña and SFSU SF BUILD Liaison, Dr. Kelechi Uwaezuoke.
