Demystifying Hispanic Versus Latino/a Versus Latinx: Which Do Emergency Department Patients Prefer?

Dr. Melanie Molina led the paper on Demystifying Hispanic Versus Latino/a Versus Latinx: Which Do Emergency Department Patients Prefer?

This was a multi-site survey study of 685 patients from four Emergency Departments in San Francisco (ZSFG and Parnassus), UCSF Fresno, and Houston. It found that ¾ of patients had not heard of the word "Latinx", and < 3% of Hispanic/Latino/a/x-identifying ED patients preferred the term Latinx over other descriptors. The preferred terms were Latino, Latina, or Hispanic.
