UCSF Curriculum Enhancement

In late 2015, the UCSF School of Medicine (SOM) launched the Differences Matter Initiative where they identified six goals, one of which aims to “cultivate the highest quality most inclusive learning environment.” Led by Dr. Alejandra Rincón, the Education Action Group (EAG) was charged with optimizing the culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity within the SOM educational program. Current Findings

Next Steps 

The overall goals of the curriculum work within the LCOE are: 

1. Development of core competencies for care of Latinx populations.

2. Creation of new assessment tools.

3. Creation of new curriculum.

Timeline  

- Year 1 (July 2017-June 2018) Review of pre-clinical curriculum, then clinical.

- Year 2 (July 2018 – June 2019) Focus on CMB and Fresno community clinics.

- Year 3 (July 2019- June 2020) Focus on competency assessments.

- Year 4 (July 2020 – June 2021) On-line module creation, dissemination and determination of where to include content within structure of the Bridges curriculum.

- Year 5 (June 2021 – June 2022) Test inclusion of curriculum within SOM class.
